Holmes Mill is one of Clitheroe’s most stunning wedding venues — a beautifully restored textile mill right in the heart of the town, combining industrial heritage with modern luxury. I’ve performed here and know the space well, and it’s a fantastic venue for live entertainment.
The Venue
Holmes Mill sits at the foot of Clitheroe Castle, surrounded by the Ribble Valley countryside. The venue has been lovingly restored to showcase its history while offering a luxurious, modern feel — exposed brick, original beams, and high ceilings that create an incredible atmosphere. The Cotton Room accommodates up to 150 guests for ceremonies and wedding breakfasts, with space for up to 180 in the evening.
One of the things that makes Holmes Mill special is everything being under one roof. The on-site Spinning Block Hotel has 39 individually designed bedrooms, and the Bowland Brewery is right there too — so guests can enjoy craft beer alongside fine dining without ever leaving the building. It’s also within walking distance of Clitheroe train station, making it easy for guests travelling from further afield.
Entertainment at Holmes Mill
The Cotton Room’s high ceilings and open layout make it a brilliant space for live music. The acoustics suit both intimate acoustic performances during the ceremony and wedding breakfast, and fuller, more energetic live looping sets in the evening. The room has plenty of space for a performance area without eating into the dance floor, and the industrial aesthetic means the lighting setup looks incredible against the exposed brick and beams.
I provide complete all-day wedding entertainment at Holmes Mill, covering every part of your day from a single booking:
Ceremony Music — live acoustic music as your guests take their seats, during the processional, signing of the register, and recessional. Holmes Mill’s Cotton Room is licensed for civil ceremonies, and the space lends itself beautifully to live acoustic performance.
Drinks Reception & Wedding Breakfast — relaxed live music while your guests mingle with drinks from the Bowland Brewery bar, continuing through the meal. I can also handle MC and hosting duties if you’d like someone to run the room, introduce speeches, and keep the day flowing.
Evening Entertainment — this is where the live looping comes into its own. Using my Sheeran Looper X, I build full arrangements live on stage — drums, bass, guitar, vocals, harmonies — creating a sound that fills the Cotton Room and gets the dance floor packed. The evening set comes with DJ service between live sets, plus wireless LED uplighting that I control from my pedalboard to transform the atmosphere.
Why Holmes Mill Works So Well for Live Entertainment
There are a few things about Holmes Mill that make it a particularly good fit for what I do. The room’s height means sound carries well without being overwhelming — I can deliver a full-energy evening set that fills the space without blasting guests at the front. The industrial styling pairs perfectly with my wireless LED uplighting, creating dramatic colour washes across the exposed brick. And the fact that everything happens in one room means the transition from wedding breakfast to evening party is seamless — no moving between spaces, no awkward changeover.
The venue team at Holmes Mill are also brilliant to work with. They understand entertainment setup requirements and are always accommodating with load-in times and power access.
