One of the most common questions couples ask when planning their wedding entertainment is “how much does a wedding singer cost?” It’s a fair question — and one that’s often treated as a bit taboo in the industry. As a full-time wedding entertainer who performs at around 80 weddings a year across Lancashire, the North West, and beyond, I’m going to give you a completely honest breakdown of what to expect and, more importantly, what you’re actually paying for.

You’re Not Buying a Product — You’re Buying an Experience

Before we get into the numbers, it’s worth understanding something fundamental about wedding entertainment: you’re not buying a product off a shelf. You’re investing in a service — a live, one-off experience that directly shapes how your wedding day feels. The difference between a good wedding singer and a great one isn’t just the notes they hit. It’s the atmosphere they create, the way they read the room, the seamless transitions between each part of your day, and the peace of mind knowing that someone experienced is managing your entertainment from start to finish.

Wedding Singer Price Brackets in 2026

Pricing for wedding singers in the UK varies enormously, but it broadly falls into three brackets. Understanding what each level offers will help you make the right decision for your budget and expectations.

£300–£500 — Entry Level

At this level, you’ll typically find newer performers or musicians who primarily do pub and bar work and take on weddings as a sideline. You might get a decent singer, but the risks are real. Equipment may be basic, repertoire limited, and crucially, they may not have the experience to navigate the nuances of a wedding day — the timing, the room management, the ability to adapt when plans change (and they always change). At this price point, you’re usually getting a single set of 45 minutes to an hour, likely with a backing track rather than live instrumentation. There’s nothing wrong with booking at this level if budget is tight, but go in with realistic expectations and always ask for recent wedding-specific references and videos.

£600–£1,000 — Experienced Professionals

This is where you start getting experienced, professional musicians who live and breathe weddings. In this range, you’d expect a polished performance, professional-grade PA and equipment, a broad repertoire, and someone who truly understands the flow of a wedding day. Performers at this level typically offer multiple sets across different parts of your day — perhaps a ceremony performance and drinks reception, or a drinks reception and evening party. They’ll usually be happy to learn special request songs, come with public liability insurance and proper contracts, and bring a level of professionalism that’s immediately apparent. At the higher end of this bracket, you’re looking at full-time professionals who offer consultation meetings, bespoke song arrangements, and the kind of personalised service that makes your entertainment feel truly tailored to your wedding.

£1,000+ — Premium All-Day Entertainment

At this level, you’re getting a complete, premium entertainment experience. This is typically an all-day entertainment package where a single, highly experienced performer covers everything from your ceremony music through to the last dance of the night — including hosting, DJ service, and often additional elements like wireless uplighting. This is the kind of complete wedding entertainment package I offer. At this level, you’re not just hiring a singer; you’re hiring someone who becomes the backbone of your entire day’s atmosphere. Award-winning performers, musicians who are recognised as the best in their field, and entertainers who invest heavily in their craft, equipment, and the overall experience they deliver all tend to sit in this bracket.

What Are You Actually Paying For?

When you see a wedding singer’s fee, it’s easy to think “that’s a lot for a few hours of singing.” But the reality is that fee covers far more than just the performance itself. Behind every wedding performance sits hundreds of hours of practice and preparation, thousands of pounds invested in professional equipment (PA systems, guitars, loop pedals, lighting, microphones — the list goes on), travel and setup time on the day, years of experience learning how to read rooms and manage energy, public liability insurance, ongoing marketing and business costs, and constant investment in learning new songs and developing skills. A professional wedding singer doesn’t just turn up and sing — they bring expertise, reliability, and the kind of experience that only comes from doing this day in, day out.

Wedding Singer vs Band vs DJ: Comparing Costs

To put wedding singer prices in context, here’s how they compare to other entertainment options. A wedding DJ typically costs £300–£600 for an evening set. A duo act usually runs £600–£1,000. A full wedding band with three to five members can cost anywhere from £1,500 to £3,500 or more.

This is where an all-in-one entertainer offers genuine value. By combining live acoustic performance, live looping technology, hosting, and DJ services into one package, you get the variety and energy of multiple acts without the cost of booking them separately. When couples compare the cost of hiring a ceremony musician, a daytime guitarist, an evening band, and a DJ individually — the total quickly reaches £2,500 to £4,500. An all-day package delivers all of this for significantly less.

How to Get the Best Value from Your Wedding Entertainment Budget

My biggest piece of advice is to think about what matters most to you as a couple. If the evening party is your priority, focus your budget there. But if you want a consistent atmosphere throughout the whole day — from walking down the aisle to the last dance — then an all-day entertainment package is almost always better value than booking separate acts for each part of the day.

Don’t be afraid to ask performers exactly what’s included in their price. A good wedding entertainer will be transparent about what you get. Ask about equipment, setup times, whether they’ll learn special requests, and what happens if they need to travel a significant distance. And remember — “reasonable” is subjective. The cheapest option isn’t always the best value, and the most expensive isn’t always the best fit. It comes down to what you value and how important the feeling of your wedding day is to you.
