I get asked about my live looping rig all the time — by fellow musicians, by couples who’ve seen me perform at weddings, and by other entertainers looking to build something similar. So I thought it was time to put the whole thing in one place: every piece of gear, how it all connects, and why I chose each component.

My Complete Rig Run Down

Here’s a full walkthrough of every piece of gear in my setup — from the guitar and looper through to the mixer, wireless systems, and lighting control. This video covers the lot.

The Gear List

Here’s everything that makes up the rig:

Guitar: Taylor 314ce — my workhorse. It’s got the perfect balance of warmth and clarity for live looping, and the expression system pickup translates beautifully through the rig.

Looper: Sheeran Looper X (previously Headrush Looperboard) — this is the heart of the whole setup. The Looper X handles multi-track looping with an intuitive touchscreen interface, built-in FX engine, and the build quality to survive life on the road.

Vocal & Guitar FX: TC Helicon Voicelive 3 Extreme — handles all my vocal processing (harmonies, reverb, delay, compression) and guitar effects in one unit. It sits between the microphone and the Looper X so everything gets printed to the loop with effects already baked in.

Percussion: Roland HPD-20 HandSonic with Yamaha KU100 kick pedal — this is what gives the loops their full-band feel. Drum kits, percussion, bass sounds — all triggered live and looped in real time.

Mixer: Midas MR12 — the best fit I’ve found in terms of size and functionality. It handles all the routing between the Looper X, Voicelive, HPD-20, and the PA, and I can control it remotely from my phone if needed.

Microphone: Sennheiser G4 wireless system with a 945 capsule — wireless is non-negotiable for me. I need to move freely during performances, and the 945 capsule gives a clear, warm vocal tone that works brilliantly for both intimate ceremony singing and full-energy evening sets.

Wireless Systems: Sennheiser G3/G4 belt packs for everything — microphone, guitar, and in-ear monitors. Being completely wireless means I can move freely during performances, which makes a massive difference at weddings.

Lighting Control: ADJ MyDMX with MIDI — I control the wireless LED uplighting from the pedalboard via MIDI, so lighting changes happen automatically as part of the performance. No separate lighting desk needed.

MIDI Controller: Morningstar MC8 — handles MIDI messages for lighting triggers and function changes on the looper. It’s the glue that ties the whole rig together.

Pedalboard: Swan Flight Cases — built to fit everything perfectly and survive life on the road. More on that below.

The Pedalboard Rebuild

When I made the switch from the Headrush Looperboard to the Sheeran Looper X, it meant a complete pedalboard rebuild. Different dimensions, different cable routing, different power requirements — essentially starting from scratch. I documented the entire rebuild process across two videos, from the initial planning through to the finished board in its Swan Flight case.

The key considerations for any live looping pedalboard are accessibility (can I reach everything I need mid-performance without looking down?), cable management (nothing worse than a loose cable killing your signal at a gig), and durability (this board gets loaded in and out of venues every week). The Swan Flight case ticks all three boxes.

Why the Gear Matters for Your Wedding

All the gear talk is great for fellow musicians — but what does it actually look like when everything comes together at a real wedding? This clip from the end of my pedalboard rebuild video shows exactly that: the full rig set up and running at a live wedding, complete with the lighting, the looping, and the atmosphere it creates.

You might be thinking “that’s interesting, but why should I care about a pedalboard?” And fair enough — as a couple booking wedding entertainment, you shouldn’t need to worry about the technical details. But the gear behind the performance is a big part of why live looping entertainment sounds and feels the way it does. Every piece of this rig has been chosen specifically to deliver the best possible sound at weddings and events — from intimate ceremony acoustics to full-energy evening performances that fill a dance floor.

The investment in professional-grade equipment is one of the things that separates a premium wedding entertainer from someone with a guitar and a cheap PA. It’s the difference between sound that fills a room beautifully and sound that struggles to reach the back row. And when you combine all of this gear with years of experience using it at hundreds of weddings, the result is an entertainment experience that’s polished, reliable, and genuinely impressive.
