Stirk House in Gisburn is one of those hidden gems that couples absolutely fall in love with the moment they walk through the door. Set in the stunning Ribble Valley countryside on the edge of the Forest of Bowland, it’s a venue that combines character, warmth, and a genuinely welcoming atmosphere. Having performed there on numerous occasions, I can tell you it’s a fantastic venue for live wedding entertainment.
What Makes Stirk House Special for Live Entertainment
Stirk House has a really lovely feel to it. It’s elegant without being stuffy, and the staff treat every wedding like it’s the most important event they’ve ever hosted. The function room has a great layout for live entertainment — good sight lines, a proper dance floor area, and acoustics that work well for both amplified and acoustic performance.
One of the things I particularly appreciate about Stirk House is how the different spaces flow into each other. The bar area, the gardens (weather permitting!), and the function room all connect naturally, which means guests can move between spaces during the drinks reception while live music carries across the whole area. It creates this wonderful, relaxed atmosphere that’s perfect for a wedding.
Entertainment Through the Day at Stirk House
Stirk House lends itself brilliantly to an all-day entertainment package. The ceremony room is intimate and atmospheric — ideal for a live acoustic performance as the bride walks down the aisle. I’ve played some beautifully emotional ceremony sets there, and the room just amplifies that feeling of closeness and love.
For the drinks reception, I usually set up near the bar or in the garden area (if the weather’s on our side — this is Lancashire, after all). It’s the perfect backdrop for relaxed acoustic covers while guests mingle over their fizz. Then for the wedding breakfast, I can host proceedings, introduce the speeches, and keep everything running to time.
The evening is where Stirk House really comes alive. The function room transforms into a proper party space, and with my live loop act building songs up layer by layer before transitioning into full DJ mode, the dance floor is always packed. The venue team are brilliant at managing the changeover from the daytime setup to the evening layout, and they’re always on hand to make sure everything runs smoothly.
Practical Tips for Your Stirk House Entertainment
Load-in and setup: Stirk House has straightforward access for loading equipment, and the team are always helpful. I typically arrive a couple of hours before the evening entertainment to set up and sound check.
Sound considerations: The room has a nice balance — it’s not too echoey and not too dead, which means the sound quality for live performance is excellent. I always work within the venue’s sound guidelines to make sure it’s at the right level for everyone to enjoy.
The gardens: If you’re having a summer wedding, make the most of Stirk House’s gardens for your drinks reception entertainment. There’s something about live music outdoors with the Bowland hills in the background that’s hard to beat.
