Some weddings just stay with you. The kind where everything falls into place, the couple are completely in love, and the whole room is buzzing with joy from start to finish. That’s exactly what it was like performing at Mitton Hall for a gorgeous winter wedding in the heart of the Ribble Valley.

A Stunning Winter Setting in the Ribble Valley

Mitton Hall is beautiful at any time of year, but there’s something magical about it in winter. The historic building, the cosy interiors, the grounds dusted with frost — it creates this incredibly romantic backdrop that just makes you want to light candles and play soft acoustic music. Which is exactly what I did.

The couple had booked me for the full day, starting with live ceremony music through to the evening party with my live loop act and DJ service. Having one entertainer for the entire day makes such a difference — by the time the evening rolls around, I’ve already built a connection with the guests, I know the couple’s vibe, and I can read the room perfectly.

The Ceremony: Walking Down the Aisle to Live Music

The ceremony was held in Mitton Hall’s beautiful ceremony room. The couple had chosen a really lovely song for the bridal entrance — performed live on acoustic guitar. There’s always this moment of absolute stillness when the doors open and the bride appears, and having live music filling that silence is incredibly powerful. You can hear the emotion in the room. A few of the guests were already reaching for tissues before the vows had even started.

During the signing of the register, I played a couple of relaxed acoustic tracks to keep the atmosphere warm while the official bits were being sorted. Then as the couple walked back down the aisle as newlyweds, we kicked it up a notch with something upbeat — the whole room erupted into cheers and applause. That’s what live music does; it amplifies those moments in a way a playlist just can’t.

Daytime Entertainment and Wedding Breakfast Hosting

After the ceremony, guests moved through to the bar for the drinks reception. I set up in the corner with my acoustic guitar and played a mix of chilled-out covers while everyone enjoyed their drinks and canapés. Winter weddings often mean guests stay indoors, which actually creates a lovely, intimate atmosphere — everyone’s gathered together, chatting, laughing, and soaking up the live music.

For the wedding breakfast, I took on hosting duties — introducing the speeches, keeping the timeline on track, and making sure everything flowed smoothly between courses. It’s one of those roles that couples don’t always think about, but having someone confident on the mic who can manage the room makes a huge difference. It takes the pressure off the best man, the parents, and the couple themselves.

The Evening: Live Looping and a Packed Dance Floor

The evening kicked off with my live loop act — building songs up layer by layer with guitar, vocals, and beats, all performed live. It’s a real crowd-pleaser because people can see and hear the music being created right in front of them. At this particular wedding, the dance floor was packed from the first song. The couple had given me a great playlist brief beforehand, so I knew exactly what their crowd wanted to hear.

Later in the evening, I switched to DJ mode and kept the party going right through to the end of the night. The beauty of doing both live performance and DJ is that the transition is seamless — there’s no awkward gap, no change of energy, just one continuous party.
